A circus/clown performer,
Freshly graduated from university, in good physical and mental health, with a normal family environment.
When military service arrives, hair is shaved, military camp is entered, everything seems normal.
Preparing to undergo transformation and become a real man, everything seems normal.
Unexpectedly, once entering the military,
He continues to repeatedly undergo performance training…?
…Normal.
"Perform, perform, perform!"
"The war is coming! What am I even performing!!"
"Solo Soldier" originated from 2023, when the creative director Mao Si-Yu encountered the circus performer Sun Wei-Yue during military service. That same year, the two, fueled by strong emotions (or feelings?) about "military service," teamed up to participate in the third annual Solo Performance Competition at the Dadaocheng International Arts Festival. They used circus and clown mime performances to interpret the experiences and training of military life, and won the top prize. Preliminary judges commented: "The physical presentation in the work was very sincere…", and "The performer’s physical skills and interaction with the audience were captivating and smooth."
In 2024, the two creators reunite to remake the full-length "Solo Soldier Basic Performance Coach." Drawing from Wei-Yue’s growth experiences, circus skills, juggling training, and clown mime development, they blend various amusing and personal military experiences, using humor and satire to interpret the unique anxieties of Generation Z boys facing military service and war.
